Judas here: I've dusted off my old nom de plume as I eneter the wonderful world of blogging, which is never something I have bee remotely interested in. Figures that if I were to learn anything new it would be at Duane's prompting.

I first met Duane in April 1976. I was at the Dauphin Public Library, poking through the stacks looking for something good to read. I was in the literature area, considering Tolstoy's War and Peace. A few feet away, a young fellow saw my selection and commented favourably on it, recommending it highly. On his advice, I decided to try it out (but never finished it - Tolstoy and I never "clicked"), and so we spent a few minutes getting acquainted. It turned out he knew my younger brother Darrell -- it never clicked at the time, but that meant that my new friend Duane was younger than I was -- by about two years, which is nothing among adults but a normally tremendous gap in the teens. I was 15, which made Duane a bit over age 13. By age 13 he had already read War and Peace, and could discuss it fluently.

It was a chance encounter, which we cemented with coffee a short time later. We shared a lot of common interests: literature, music (Alice Cooper, Kiss, Pink Floyd, just to name a few), coffee, and, unfortunately, cigarettes. The age difference, normally so important in the teens (15 year olds did not hang out with 13 year olds: not cool) didn't seem to be of any importance. In fact, for the longest time I'm not sure if I knew how old he was exactly. He seemed to be the same age I was, and he and I clicked, even if Tolstoy and I didn't.

Anyway, this has been a test - my first blog, and I'll contribute more in due time.
